Morning: Start Slow at Landa Park

Before the heat finds its teeth, head to Landa Park. It sits on 51 shady acres right in the heart of town, and it is the kind of place that works for every age at once. The little ones chase the miniature train. Grandpa wins at mini golf and will not stop talking about it. Somebody rents a paddle boat and somebody else just naps under a cypress tree. That is a win for everybody.

The park hugs Landa Lake and the spring fed Comal, so the air stays cooler here than just about anywhere else in town. Pack a picnic, claim a table early, and let the morning stretch out.

It is the waterpark this town built its summer reputation on, with everything from heart in your throat slides to lazy rivers and shallow splash zones where the smallest sightseers can paddle around happy.

This is a full afternoon, easy. Wear the water shoes, reapply the sunscreen you already forgot about once, and let the day get loud and splashy. Worth every minute.

Afternoon: Get Out of the Sun in Gruene

By mid afternoon, even the most committed sun chasers need a break. Roll into the Gruene Historic District and trade chlorine for charm. The 15 acre district is free to wander, the boutiques are full of stuff you did not know you needed, and Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, almost always has something playing.

This is the slow, golden, ice cream cone part of the day. Window shop, grab a bite, let your shoulders drop. After a morning of rivers and an afternoon of slides, your body has earned a stroll in the shade.

Night: Wind Down Under the Stars

Here is our favorite way to close a New Braunfels day. The Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theatre, family owned, opens nightly, and runs double features under the open sky. Back the car in, pop the trunk, pile in the blankets and camp chairs, and watch a movie the way folks did before phones existed. The 50s Cafe handles the snacks, and the vibe is pure nostalgia.

Pro move: arrive about an hour early to claim your spot and let the kids run around the play area before the first feature rolls.

This is the part of the day made for unwinding all the way down.
